Obesity is one of the most dangerous diseases of the 21st
century, and it wasn’t negligible at the end of the 20th, either. Americans are
bombarded daily with the most palatable ads for junk food and fast food, and as
life rhythm’s increases, Americans mostly have time for the most harmful
products.
The biggest meal is dinner, breakfast is sometimes only coffee, and
lunch is either more take-away junk food or an insufficient sandwich. It comes
as no surprise, considering the above, that America
is trying to lose weight.
The disease can now be diagnosed in children as young as
six, because their parents do not pay attention to what they feed them and
because children are trusted with allowances which they can spend at will,
mostly on more and more junk food. Teenagers as young as 14 develop eating
disorders, wanting to get rid of the gained pounds, gained either by willing
consumption or by a hereditary cause.
Obesity in itself causes so many health issues, like heart attacks and cancer,
that it alone, as a single risk factor, can easily kill you.
In a desperate attempt to limit and treat obesity, all the
while promoting a healthy eating and lifestyle, the U.S. government concluded
that adults should get about two and a half hours of exercise weekly, while
children should spend at least an hour a day running and playing – preferably
not within an online or console game.
The exercising guidelines were developed after extensive
studies, which showed that 60% of adults don’t exercise enough, and 25% do not
exercise at all. They are all in danger of developing heart disease, cancer,
osteoporosis, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, depression and many others. To prevent the
development of such ailments, exercising from an early age is crucial.
