US Adults Choose Internet Over Sex

When it comes to choosing between sex and spending more time on the Internet, you would be (or not) surprised to find out that many people, especially women, would rather live without sex for two weeks than not use the Internet.

Intel and Harris Interactive will release a detailed study next week, on what they say should reflect how important the Internet has become, but in which many will probably see the sexual behavior of modern couples being altered by the Internet.

The survey, which included a total of 2,119 adults, revealed that 46 percent of women, and 30 percent of men would choose the Internet over sex for two weeks.

Among women, only 49 percent of women aged 18-34 would choose the Internet over sex, however, their number grows with age, reaching 52 percent of women aged 35-44. The proportion in men is much lower, with only 30 percent of them making that choice.

Unlike women, younger men seem to be more willing to skip sex for two weeks (39 percent of men aged 18-34), but only 23 percent of men aged 35-44 would do the same thing.

We know the Internet now holds an important place in our lives, but what are the other things people consider they could not live without? The study revealed that people are also interested in Cable TV (39 percent), dining out (20 percent), shopping for clothes (18 percent) and gym membership (10 percent).
