U2, Beyonce to Perform at Obama’s Inauguration at Lincoln Memorial

The inauguration of America’s 44th president will be marked by a big-time concert at the Lincoln Memorial Sunday. The concert will kick of the festivities of the day the first black president takes office at the White House.

The list of artists and singers who will perform at "We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration At The Lincoln Memorial" includes Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Bono, Garth Brooks, Sheryl Crow, Renee Fleming, Josh Groban, Herbie Hancock, Heather Headley, John Legend, Jennifer Nettles, John Mellencamp, Usher, Shakira, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, will.i.am and Stevie Wonder.

The opening festivity will be open to the public and will also be free. The program starts at around 2:30 p.m. and the concert will also be broadcasted on HBO from 7 to 9.

Moreover, public passages will be written by Jamie Foxx, Martin Luther King III, Queen Latifah and Denzel Washington.

Rt. Reverend V. Gene Robinson, the first openly gay Episcopal Bishop, will give the invocation. Evangelical pastor Rick Warren would most likely have had that honor if it weren’t for so many critics denouncing his role in the inauguration of what probably not even Martin Luther King Jr (whose Day is coming) had hoped to happen – a black U.S. President.

Co-producer Michael Stevens said the singers and producers are trying to agree on music that expresses optimism and hope. Executive producer George Stevens Jr said that every singer will perform one song, but there will be duets, triots and choirs.

"It's going to be connecting music to history and ideas and American values," Don Mischer, another producer of the event, said.

As expected, Barack Obama will attend the event.
