Thursday, the “American Idol” show visited two cities in a single episode for the first time in the contest’s history, with the judges having held the last round of auditions in both New York and Puerto Rico.
As expected, contestants fell into the same old, same old two categories, the ones who make you want to cover your ears, close your eyes and hope it will all go away and the ones able to get you wishing you could sing the way they do or at least never hear anything but their soft, sweet voice.
Leading the first category was Adeola Adegoke, who entered the room saying that she knew she was so good that she had even quit her job, followed closely by Alexis Cohen, who also made an appearance last year under the „Glitter Girl” nickname and who now dedicated her disturbing performance to her father.
At the end of her audition, judge Simon Cowell told her that they had finally all established she could not sing.
Next in line was Joel Contraras, who offered a dreadful rendition of „Can you Feel the Love Tonight” while hugging a lion puppet, but unfortunately (for him, obviously) did not manage to impress the four-judge panel. Not by far.
This eighth season of “American Idol” has brought forth some changes to the show, including a fourth judge, singer-songwriter Kara DioGuardi having joined the panel already consisting of Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson and an extra week to the „Hollywood Round,” during which the participants in the talent television show would be given more time to convince the judges they deserve a spot among the 36 to remain after the round.
