The bodies of two men were found Thursday morning on a bike path in the southwest corner of Cook County near Lemont.

They were wrapped in plastic and bed-shits, according to Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart's sayings during a news conference.

The construction crews who were paving the asphalt bike path west of Illinois 83 near the border of Cook and DuPage counties discovered the bodies at 7 a.m., according to Sherriff’s department representative Penny Mateck

The bodies seem to have been placed there late on Wednesday or early Thursday because the workers had not noticed them at the site Wednesday afternoon. They were meant to be seen if considering the place where they were discovered.

"If you look at the area where they were found, they were right in the middle of an open area. There are forested areas nearby and water, but they were right out in the open," Mateck said.

The case appears to be a criminal matter, she added.

Their bodies were lying side by side, Sheriff Dart said. They were first wrapped in plastic garbage bags and packing tape and then in sheet bedding.

One body was soaking in blood inside the wrappings, Sheriff Dart added.

According to officials, the two men appeared to be Hispanic and about 6 feet tall.

The two bodies were taken to the Cook County medical examiner’s office this morning, where an autopsy will be conducted in order to establish the cause of their death and their identities. The bodies seem to have been bitten to death considering the way they looked after the wrappings were taken away.

The Cook County Sheriff’s office and Forest Preserve police started an investigation on the case.
