Two Planes Clip Wings at Dulles Airport, No Injuries

Two United Airlines jet airplanes clipped wings Sunday at Dulles International Airport outside Washington. No serious injuries were reported.

The incident involved Shuttle America’s Flight No. 7681, an Embraer 170 jet en route from Dulles to Dallas-Forth Worth International Airport as a United Express flight. The Embraer’s right wing hit the left wing of United Airlines Flight No. 783, and Airbus 319 en route from Dulles to Albuquerque International Sunport Airport, Federal Aviation Administration representative Laura Brown said, according to the Washington Post. The incident occurred around 6 p.m.

The Embraer was carrying 66 people and the Airbus, 92, United Airlines representative Jeff Kovick said, according to the same source. They are all safe. He also said crews were working to determine whether either aircraft had been damaged.

“Safety is our No. 1 priority. We will assist in the investigation into this incident,” he said.

Meanwhile, the 92 passengers aboard the Airbus were placed on a twin-engine Airbus 320 and flown to Albuquerque. The Embraer’s 66 passengers remained to complete their journey Monday morning.

No other delays resulted from the accident.

This is not the first incident like this occurred on the U.S. airports. Two U.S. Airways planes clipped wings February 17 at Washington’s Reagan National Airport. The planes were safely evacuated, their passengers being assigned to other flights.
