Two People Killed In Brooklyn Crash

Two people were killed and other five were injured when a stolen car crashed into a van belonging to the Medical Examiner's Office Tuesday in Brooklyn.

The collision occurred around 3:10 a.m. when the van was on Fort Hamilton Parkway in Borough Park heading south and it was hit by a 1995 grey Nissan Altima which was traveling east on 44th Street.

Due to the impact of the collision the van flipped on the side of its roof on the sidewalk and slammed into a light pole.

One witness, Khurshid Butt, 52, who was at a deli nearby said: "I heard a noise around 3:10, like an explosion. I see a van turned upside down and smoke coming out of the car. I call 911 right away."

The car stopped in front of a 24-hour Laundromat, while the van was towards a one-way traffic on 44th street, outside a 99 cent store. The occupants in the car couldn’t get out of it.

Butt along with a colleague tried to help the people inside the Nissan, but it wasn’t much they could do.

He said that he couldn’t open the door.

The five people from the Nissan were eventually pulled out by firefighters who opened the roof of the car.

According to police officers, the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger from the Nissan, a woman, died at the Maimonides Medical Center where she was taken.

Four of the injured were taken to Lutheran Hospital, two being in critical condition and the other two in stable condition. One of the injured was a passenger from the van.

According to Butt, one passenger from the van broke a window and got out of the van and helped the other occupants to get out too.

They were treated at hospitals from the area.

According to police officers, the Nissan was reported stolen Saturday.

Residents say that the intersection is dangerous and that is the place were many accidents occurred in the past.

One resident says that Queens Boulevard is the Avenue of Death.
