Two more stuntmen have been injured while filming a car chase for the upcoming Bond movie. The two, a driver and his co-driver, crashed an Alfa Romeo into a wall. Aris Comninos, an "experienced" Greek stuntman, has sustained heavy injuries to the head and was rushed by helicopter to an Italian hospital for emergency surgery.
"He is doing as well as can be expected," said a spokesman for his family, quoted by The Telegraph. The other stunman had only minor injuries. Apparently, the two have also had problems on Saturday while filming the same scene and ended up also in hospital at the time for stitches.
"Filming with the second unit on 'Quantum of Solace' will be suspended tomorrow (Thursday) while the accident is investigated," EON Productions said, according to Reuters. Filming was scheduled to wrap up Wednesday, with the unexpected accident taking place in the final hours.
The car used in the latest James Bond film plunged into a lake in Italy on Saturday, while driven by a stunt driver, who was delivering the vehicle, a ₤120,000 Aston Martin DB5, to the set of the new movie, “Quantum of Solace.” The accident was not the result of a stunt, but of the heavy rain combined with the narrow curves of the Lake Guarda.
“Quantum of Solace” is the latest film in the 007 series, starring Daniel Craig. The film is due to be released later this year and it has been filmed in several locations, including Chile, Mexico, Panama, England and Spain. The poetic title of the film was taken from a collection of short stories written by 007 creator Ian Fleming.
Actor Daniel Craig took up the role of James Bond for 2006’s “Casino Royale” and was the first to portray the special agent as a blue-eyed blonde. He takes up the part once more, this time amidst confidence in his adequacy as 007.
As previously reported, the new film will continue the story told in “Casino Royale,” as Bond seeks to discover the truth about Vesper Lynd’s betrayal. It was revealed that he learns Vesper (portrayed by Eva Green) had been blackmailed.
“Quantum of Solace” is directed by Marc Forster for Columbia Pictures and MGM.
