Two LSU Indian Students Shot Dead in the University Campus

Two graduate students of Indian origin were gunned down in their apartment in the Louisiana State University campus where the police have found their corpses on Thursday.

The investigations have started but so far there are no suspects. The police continue its investigation on the double homicide, LSU spokeswoman Kristine Calongne said.

The two unfortunate students were Chandrasekhar Reddy Komma and Kiran Kumar Allam. Both were Ph.D. candidates from India. Their cadavers were found in the apartment located in the Edward Gay Complex near the LSU band's practice field.

The campus police and the Baton Rouge Police Department are collaborating in the investigation, said the campus spokesperson.

Both victims were shot directly in the head and three men were spotted as they were leaving the vicinity of the apartment in the stretch of time, a fact that turned them into suspects. Police investigators are still searching for them, said Charles Zewe, an LSU system spokesman.

"From what we're being told, Komma was bound with a computer cable and shot," Zewe said. "The other man was found near the door."

The students which haven’t left the campus for the semester break were made aware of the possible danger through emergency text messages. The police patrols were increased in the area as well.

During this period, the students are taking the final exams of the semester, but many of the 30,000 already left for the holiday break.

The text messages, which weren’t received by all students because only 8,000 had signed up for cell-phone notification, cautioned them about the crimes that had taken place, said a statement posted Friday on the university’s Web site.

Unlike previous cases of murders that took place inside student campuses such as the Virginia Tech shootings earlier this year, the LSU officials took the decision not to impose a lockdown of the dormitories, said Calongne.

"Police actually think it was a straight home invasion and not a concern to the rest of the campus," said Calongne.

According to The Associated Press, Allam's wife was the one which discovered the bodies and called the police station. She is expecting a baby.
