“Twilight” brightens up the roads of Kristen Stewart and
Robert Pattinson. Literally. Just think about it. The film made them famous,
outstandingly famous, that is. But who had heard about them before the “Twilight”
craze began?
The groundbreaking saga makes us want to become vampires or
at least live next to them. And this particular element appeals most to teenage
girls, who have formed one of the fiercest fan bases out there. Edward Cullen’s
ashen face, his red lips and pensive eyes made Robert Pattinson’s character the
most breathtaking fictional persona of the moment. In addition, the fact that
he fell for a classmate, who is perhaps the same age as most of the franchise’s
admirers, boosted the charming nature of the movie.
“Twilight” is more of a romantic drama rather than a horror
flick, although director Catherine Hardwicke brought into play a couple of
vampiresque elements that strengthen the magical strings of the love story.
The popular flick focuses on the romance between Bella Swan
(Kristen Stewart), who has just moved to Forks, Washington, in order to live with her
separated dad, Charlie (Billy Burke), and Edward, an odd adolescent who proves
to be a 108-year-old vampire who owns the looks of an attractive young lad.
He does not blood-suck humans, however, as he prefers to
drink animal blood, and is different from the traditional followers of Dracula,
who are usually associated with the forces of evil.
“Twilight’s” vampire love proved to be contagious among
young moviegoers, who packed theaters during the film’s opening weekend and
helped the production gross approximately $70.6 million at the North American
box office. Moreover, a new film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s second novel from
the best-selling vampire series on which “Twilight” is also based has been
announced. The saga will be continued by “New Moon,” which will feature Robert
Pattinson and Kristen Stewart as lead actors once again.
