The
romantic horror drama starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and
Billy Burke „Twilight” is scheduled to debut in United
States theaters Friday, November 21st.
Directed by Catherine Hardwicke, the production is a vampire
film that tells the story of teenage girl Bella Swan, portrayed by the
aforementioned Stewart, who falls in love with Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a handsome and
witty boy who turns out to be a „vegetarian” vampire.
Cullen, who has not aged since 1918, does not drink human
blood, preying on bears and lions instead, and is also part of an entire clan
of such „good” vampires, which includes Emmet, Alice and Dr. Carlisle Cullen.
Nevertheless, as the two grow fonder of each other, Edward’s
underlying thirst for human blood begins to slowly surface, thus endangering
Bella.
“Twilight”
is based on the eponymous novel written by Stephenie Meyer, the book
series having sold over 17 million copies worldwide, of which 8.5 million only
in the United States.
In addition, the „Twilight” books were translated into over 20 different
languages throughout the world.
The novel was adapted into a movie screenplay by Melissa
Rosenberg back in 2007, not long before the Writers Guild of America strike
broke out.
On November 4, the „Twilight” soundtrack was released,
having debuted at no.1 on the Billboard
200, with 165,000 copies sold within its first week.
The movie’s cast includes, alongside lead actors Stewart and
Pattinson, Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Ashley Greene and Billy Burke as
Bella’s father Charlie Swan, who is also Chief of Police in Forks, Washington,
where the action of the production is set.
