After Warner Brothers announced that the latest movie in the Harry Potter franchise will have its opening delayed for the summer of 2009, the producers of 'Twilight,' the movie based on the Stephenie Meyer book that bares the same title, have announced that their movie will be released during the same weekend that 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' should have been.
According to Reuters, a representative of Summit Entertainment, the studio producing 'Twilight' explained that "When Warner Bros. decided to move 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' to the summer of 2009, we saw a unique opportunity to slot in our film, which has been gaining tremendous awareness and momentum over the past several months."
Indeed, as Meyer's books grew to become famous, so did the anticipation for 'Twilight,' which is based on the first book in the series. The fact that the opening of the movie will take the place of the latest installment in the Harry Potter series, is not a surprising thing. The two series of books have been considered by some to be similar, and Meyer has been compared to J.K. Rowling. What this means is that 'Twilight' has a good chance of luring some of the people who are upset by the delay of the Harry Potter to come and see it.
While 'Twilight' will most likely benefit of the delay, things might not go so good for the Warner Brothers movie. As soon as the announcement that Harry Potter fans will have to wait another 8 month for the latest movie in the franchise was made, people have already started posting angry notes saying that they don't want to wait so long for a movie that could be ready by November.
What remains to be seen is if these angry fans will eventually go to see the movie or will 'Twilight' be enough for them.
