There’s a new franchise on the loose, and yes, this one is based on a popular book series too. Stephanie Meyer’s vampire epic “Twilight” is closer to us now than ever, as its launch date is approaching. Fans will have to feast their eyes on the movie’s posters, trailers and photos from the set until the fateful day of November 21st.

In 2005, Meyer made it big by releasing the first book of her series, called “Twilight.” The story of the first book centers on the beautiful mortal teenager Isabelle Swan, who falls in love with her handsome classmate, Edward Cullen. The problems begin when Edward, who although looks 17 is actually a 108-year-old vampire, reciprocates the feelings and when a series of older, more experienced vampires threaten to kill his beloved Bella.

If we were to compare the success of “Twilight” with any recent fantasy book, then “Harry Potter” would be the one. The only foreseeable difference is that the first and second Harry Potter books appealed to children, and only the rest sparked a bigger interest in teenagers and young adults, before becoming a mass phenomenon. “Twilight” catches the eye of fan girls, mostly, as it features the necessary dark, twisted, handsome vampire with a heart of gold to make the books sell like hot cakes. If you followed the TV series “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer”, you would have noticed that episodes featuring Angel and Spike had bigger ratings than the rest. The vampire in “Twilight”, Robert Pattinson, first made ladies swoon when he played the tragic part of the smart, charming pretty-boy Cedric Diggory in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.”

The book itself is pretty light on graphic sexual activity, even with kissing – although the latter is explainable as to a vampire, there’s a fine line between kissing and sucking the blood out of his lover’s jugular. What the movie holds in this department, however, remains to be seen.
