Life’s good, and more and more
simple to live. The gadgets’ industry is flourishing and people have more and
more spare time, which they can use for gaming or second-living. And now for
TiVo Inc.’s digital video recorders’ users ordering a movie from Amazon.com
will be even simpler than ever, as they will be able to do it directly from
their TVs.
Amazon.com Inc. and TiVo Inc.’s
have been partners already since March 2007, when TiVo Inc.’s agreed to deliver
Amazon’s Unbox download service to its machines. Till now, however, the feature
required the users’ placing their orders on a computer through Amazon’s web
site.
But from now on, the ultimate
“Buy on TV” service will allow TiVo users to search Amazon’s video catalog, to
rent or purchase titles by simply using their TiVo’s remote control. Simple,
isn’t it?
However, only the owners of the
TiVo Series2 and Series3 broadband-connected DVRs will have access to this new
service, for which TiVo Inc. has already developed a special safeguard too, so
that everything to work just fine. This safeguard consists in the users’ having
to introduce a five-digit password for completing the transaction.
The service that TiVo Inc. and
Amazon.com Inc. have offered to their customers is just one of the latest
examples of how the companies are trying to quickly deliver online videos
directly to their customers’ living rooms. Microsoft Corp., Apple Inc. and
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. are some of such companies too.
