Eric Breed, a.k.a. MC Breed, died Saturday at a friend's home in Ypsilanti, about 30 miles southwest of Detroit, a Washtenaw County medical examiner's spokesman said Monday. Breed had suffered from kidney failure and died in his sleep, according to The Detroit News and The Flint Journal and even though toxicology reports were pending, no foul play was suspected in the 37-year-old's death.
"We are saddened by our great loss. More than just an artist, we mourn the loss of a beloved father, son, brother and friend," his family and management said. "We are thankful and blessed to have been in his presence and want him to be remembered for his creative, caring, talented and hard-working spirit."
He was revived three times before in September of this year after suffering kidney failure while playing basketball in Atlanta. He was placed on life support and reports then said his kidneys were only 30 percent functional. Since then it seems he never really made any progress. Details have not been revealed for sure on how he died but his manager Darryl Morris confirmed his death.
The star was responsible for the 1991 hit “Ain't No Future In Yo' Frontin'' and the 1993 hit "Gotta Get Mine," featuring Shakur. He had 13 albums and influenced many rappers today, especially Eminem's affiliate Trick Trick. MC Breed was getting ready to release an album entitled “Original Breed/Mc Breed - The Original Swag” featuring Too Short among others. The rapper was also preparing to release a DVD “Where is MC Breed” which chronicled his life.
