“Twilight” is surrounded by screams, eagerness and tremor.
In anticipation of the film’s long awaited domestic release, scheduled to take
place on November 21, Summit Entertainment, the studio responsible with the distribution
of the movie, organized a world premiere of the popular vampire flick in Los Angeles. The event,
which took place on Monday night at the Mann
Village and Bruin theaters in Westwood, California,
gathered thousands of exhilarated fans, as well as the dearly loved leading
stars.
Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, alongside co-stars
Elizabeth Reaser, Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed, Peter Facinelli and Taylor Lautner,
stepped on the red carpet accompanied by ear-piercing sounds coming from the
crowds of adolescents eager to see their idols.
The screening also brought together Perry Farrell and
Paramore, who helped conceive the movie’s soundtrack, Stephenie Meyer, the
author of the much-loved vampire book series and helmer Catherine Hardwicke.
Apart from the movie production ensemble, the premiere was
attended by well-known celebrities such as Jennie Garth, Jamie Foxx and Kim
Basinger.
But what’s with the outstanding popularity of “Twilight”?
The franchise benefits from one of the fiercest fan bases out there, but can
the vampiresque phenomenon be explained?
Well, vampires unquestionably represent a profitable
business. From novels that depict tear-jerking love stories between the
blood-sucking creatures and naive humans, to big or small screen productions which
put the vampires in a more or less bloodcurdling light, the followers of
Dracula have on their side both public attention and success.
Thus, it should come as no surprise that “Twilight” is
expected to score big at box offices everywhere. It includes a drop of romance
and magic that has been lost along the way by many dramas and maybe this is the
key to the audience’s heart. Or maybe the books made it so popular even before
its world premiere.
Following the Harry Potter mania, the “Twilight” craze goes
a little bit deeper, offering the delineation of a luckless love story, which
involves moments of wistfulness, jeopardy, a striking cast and an enchanting pinnacle.
Based on Stephenie Meyer’s books, the film focuses on Bella
Swan (Kristen Stewart), a brooding teenager who moves to the small town of Forks, Washington, in
order to live with her divorced dad, Charlie. Nevertheless, her life gets
complicated when she begins to feel attracted to Edward Cullen (Robert
Pattinson), a classmate who proves to be a 108-year-old vampire. He is the member
of a family of eternally young-looking blood-sucking creatures who confront
their wild nature by avoiding drinking human blood.
The supernatural idea from which “Twilight” is derived is
the key to success for both the moviemakers and the author of the books. Even
if the “Twilight” mania may seem far-fetched, think about the dreamy old times
when fairytales were alive and one could feel them in every pore. Then, you
will understand.
