Former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and DJ Adam Goldstein are expected to pull through and fully recover after the plane they were in crashed and caught fire on a runway in South California. The two suffered second and third degree burns and are currently in critical condition.
Four other passengers aboard the Learjet 60 weren’t as lucky as Barker and Goldstein. Four people died in the fiery crash including the plane’s two pilots. The deadly crash occurred just after midnight Friday in Columbia, S.C.
The cockpit voice recorded showed that the cause of the crash may have been a tire blowout. The voice recorded went on for about two hours, but only the last 18 minutes were relevant, said Debbie Hersman, board member of the National Transportation Safety Board in Washington, D.C.
"After getting their clearance from Air Traffic Control, the plane only got 80 knots on the 8,600-foot runway before the incident," Hersman told People Magazine.
The recording revealed that the aircraft’s pilots reacted to a sound which seemed to be a tire blowout. The two pilots attempted to reject the takeoff, but it was too late.
Fortunately, the two musicians survived and their doctors said they will fully recover. They currently are in critical but stable condition in a burn center in nearby Augusta, Ga.
The two pilots who died in the crash were Pilot Sarah Lemmon, 3l, and co-pilot James Bland, 52. The other victims were security guard Charles Still and Barker's assistant Chris Baker. They all died instantly at the impact.
