Travis Barker and DJ AM Alive But In Critical Condition, Badly Burned

Former Blink 182 drummer, Travis Barker and DJ AM, real name Adam Goldstein, are lucky to be alive after being involved in a fatal private plane crash in Columbia, South Carolina early Saturday morning.

Four people, Sarah Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim Hills, co-pilot James Bland, 52, of Carlsbad, Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City and Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles, were killed in the crash. Baker was Travis’ assistant and Still was Travis’ security guard.

Seriously injured, with burns all over their bodies, the two managed to escape the plane alive and were seen running around the runway stripping off their clothes to put out the flames. They were rushed to a burn center in Augusta, Ca. where they are listed as in critical condition.

According to Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman, the Learjet crashed during takeoff. Air traffic controllers reportedly "saw sparks coming from the runway — whether that was from the aircraft or its engines, we don’t know." The plane went off the runway and crashed on a nearby road.

"Completely terrified and traumatized," Adam is reportedly being kept in an incubator to ward off infection and was put into a medically-induced coma so that he can have skin grafts to try to replace some of the "extensive" damage from burns to his face. According to US Weekly, the doctors at the hospital said he was lucky to be alive. The musician managed to call his mother from the ambulance, USmagazine.com reported.

Nicole Richie, Adam's ex-fiance was reportedly "in shock" upon hearing the tragic news, and according to a close friend, "she wishes only the best for Adam and hopes he recovers from this."

The news hit hard on Barker's side as well, Shanna Moakler has rushed to be with ex-husband and father of her children. Speaking to People magazine, Moakler’s mother said that Travis was doing okay – everything considered – but that he was incredibly upset over the deaths of four other passengers, especially about his assistant.

"Shanna flew out this morning, and I am going to L.A. to be with the children so that she can devote time to Travis," Gail Moakler, Shanna's mother told People.com. "There’s still love between them," she said. "They may be divorced, but they’re still very close. She spends a lot of time with him. Their priorities are their kids."

"Our heart pours out. We’re hoping he recovers. The family is rallying around him and saying our prayers," she said.

Shanna and Travis married in 2004 and divorced earlier this year. They had a rather dramatic relationship which was documented on their MTV show "Meet the Barkers." They're famous for breaking up and getting back together. Travis and Shanna have two young children: daughter Alabama is 2 and their son Landon is 4.
