Travis Barker, the former drummer of Blink 182, and DJ AM
have survived a terrible plane crash that killed the four other persons onboard
in the early hours of Saturday.
Travis Barker, the 32-year-old former drummer of rock band
Blink 182 and DJ AM, 35, real name Adam Michael Goldstein, performed at a
college event in Columbia, South
Carolina Friday night, together with former Jane’s
Addiction singer Perry Farrell and Gavin DeGraw, reports People magazine on its
website.
Both Barker and Goldstein embarked on a Learjet that crashed
upon takeoff from the Columbia
airport. It was headed to Van Nuys, California.
The two men were taken to a burn center in Augusta,
Georgia, some 75 miles southwest of Columbia.
Officials at the facility are quoted as saying that both Barker and Goldstein
were listed in critical condition as of Saturday morning.
While critical, they are stable, Beth Frits, spokesperson
for the Joseph M. Still Burn
Center, told People, also explaining that
Goldstein was airlifted to the medical center while Barker was brought by ground
transportation, thus arriving separately.
The two artists are also incredibly lucky. The four other persons
onboard the plane did not survive.
They have been identified by South
Carolina’s Lexington
County coroner, Harry Harman, and
deputy coroner Brian Setree as: pilot Sarah Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim
Hills, Calif.; co-pilot James
Bland, 52, of Carlsbad, Calif.;
security guard Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles;
and Barker’s assistant Chris Baker, 29, also of Los
Angeles.
The investigation into the crash continues. A spokesperson
for the Columbia Metropolitan
Airport has said that the weather
was beautiful Friday night when the Learjet took off.
Another spokesperson, this time for the Federal Aviation
Administration, said air-traffic controllers reported seeing sparks shortly
after the plane left the runway.
