Fans of the Transporter series have a new reason to get excited, as the third ’episode’ is out now in theatres. Considering that the story alone wouldn’t have attracted the kind of crowd needed to make it a hit, just as before, the movie’s producers called on Jason Statham and also on an impressive stunt team to deliver the wanted results.
Statham stars once again as courier Frank Martin, the man that can put to sleep a whole crew of trained fighters without a single bruise - occasionally, his white shirt might get a bit messed up, but that’s about it.
The enemy in this third movie is called Johnson, played by Robert Knepper, involved with an American corporation that dumps toxic waste. He and his crew kidnapp Valentina (Natalya Rudakova), who is the daughter of the leader of the environmental protection agency in Ukraine, looking to force him into allowing the corporation to dump its materials. As the movie gets into more serious action, the comedy also begins, with Valentina making a move for an ’all-business’ Frank - "I want to feel the sex one more time before I die," she says at a certain point and when Frank doesn't immediately respond to her invitation, she is convinced that he is not interested in women. "You're the gay!" she screams, and Frank’s response is: "No, I am not the gay. Did it ever occur to you that maybe I'm not in the mood?"
I don’t believe I will ruin the movie for anyone by saying that everything turns out great in the end, with Statham saving the day, just like in the first two movies. Action enthusiasts will get a kick out of this one, not to mention the fans of the first two parts, as the movie is filled, just as expected, with over the top action scenes. Some might even consider them a bit too much, and to give an example, in one of the scenes, Frank manages to get his car on two wheels at a speed of over 140 miles per hour and finds the space to squeeze the car between two trucks.
Some of the scenes feel a little rushed and the editing could have been a lot smoother. With these sequals there is always the same debate about which one was better and most of the time, the first movie gets the cake. Many consider Transporter should be placed in the same category, as the first one, released in 2002, brought something new and exciting to the screen; the second, even though not on the same level, was also considered entertaining and the third is believed to be the worst so far. As I stated earlier, the series’ fans will have a great time viewing this movie and others might also enjoy the 103 minutes.
The film is rated PG-13 for sequences of intense action and violence, some sexual content and drug material and the running time is 1 hour, 43 minutes.
