Toyota is maybe one of the biggest car manufacturers in the world, best known for their car that rarely brake down and which have always been top of the range. The Toyota pick-up truck is known as one of the most rugged machines in the world, being able to take a lot of damage and still run.
Even so, the economic crisis has struck the car industry, making for less and less cars to be sold, causing serious problems to the biggest of companies. Toyota is also in this position, as it reported that this fiscal year it is expected to lose approximately $1.5 billion to $1.7 billion. Toyota reports earnings on a fiscal calendar beginning in April.
Sales have plummeted in their biggest selling market, which is North America. According to a Toyota spokesperson this is the first operational loss the company had since 1950. The Japanese auto giant couldn’t remain immune to the financial crisis the world is suffering from, and some say that the figures are normal. Car sales have been very low lately, posing a lot of problems to different car manufacturers.
It seems that the solution can be found in designing more fuel efficient vehicles that are cheap to make, and still remain reliable. Solutions for designing an electric car that can have the same performances and autonomy as a regular fossil fuel vehicle is surely the way to go.
It is a tough time for all car manufacturers in the world, with the price of petrol continuing to rise, people are more reluctant to buy a new car.
