Although an autopsy of Dr. Dre’s son has been conducted, it
did not reveal the official cause of death of Andre Young Jr., thus further
tests have been ordered, according to the Los Angeles County Department of
Coroner.
“We don’t know yet why he died,” Capt. Ed Winter told PEOPLE
magazine on Wednesday. “There were no signs of trauma or foul play. We’ll be
doing toxicology and other tests, which will take up to six weeks,” he added.
Capt. Ed Winter also said that a toxicology test should
establish whether alcohol or drugs led to the death of the rap mogul’s son.
Andre Young Jr., the 20-year-old son of the famous hip hop
artist and producer, was found dead on Saturday at his home in Woodland Hills, California.
His mother reportedly found him “unresponsive in bed” at
approximately 10:24 a.m., while she was trying to wake up her son. However,
being unable to rouse him, she immediately called paramedics, but they could
not revive Dr. Dre’s son and later pronounced him dead, according to County
coroner’s Lt. John Kades.
Andre Young Jr. had been out with his friends the previous
night and arrived home at approximately 5:30 a.m., his mother told police.
Furthermore, she said she had heard her son in his bedroom.
The cause of death is not likely to be determined for up to
eight weeks pending toxicology results and other tests, Lt. John Kades said.
Dr. Dre’s publicist confirmed Andre Young Jr.’s death in a
statement released on Tuesday.
“Dr. Dre is mourning the loss of his son Andre Young Jr.
Please respect his family’s grief and privacy at this time,” the statement
read.
