There is a fine line between being grateful to have fans, as
an artist, and having stalkers, or say, insistent admirers, and Gary Coleman appears
to have just stumbled over it like it was a railway in the dark.
The Associated Press has all the potentially embarrassing
details.
Gary Coleman was inside a bowling alley in Payson, Utah,
Saturday morning, when Colt Rushton, apparently a fan, indulged in some photo
taking of the actor.
This was not to the former child star’s liking and the two
men reportedly got into an argument, said Payson police Lt. Bill Wright, as
quoted by the Associated Press.
The two eventually left the alley but they did so still
bickering over the photographs and next thing you knew it, Coleman hit Rushton
with his truck as he backed out of the parking place. He also hit another car.
Wright said it had not been determined beyond a doubt that
the collision was intentional and no citation was issued. Neither Coleman nor
his persevering fan offered details to the police regarding the incident.
What has so far been established, in Wright’s words, is that
Rushton took “some” pictures of Coleman and the latter “wasn’t happy about it.”
This led to the argument. Alcohol was also allegedly a factor in the clash.
Rushton may have been glad to see a celebrity up close but
in the end he also saw the inside of a hospital, as he required treatment for
minor injuries.
Gary Coleman, now 40, became famous in the late 1970s, when
barely a 10-year-old, as he starred in the television sitcom “Diff’rent Strokes”
from 1978 to 1986. He portrayed the show’s main character, precocious
sweet-looking Arnold Jackson, who made “Whatchoo talkin’ ‘bout?” a household
staple.
Coleman revealed earlier this year that he had secretly
married Shannon Price, 22, whom he met on the set of “Church Ball.” No word
whether Coleman’s wife was also present Saturday morning.
