Devastating storms which also included tornadoes were
reported moving through Texas and Oklahoma yesterday, causing huge commotion in
the area.
The storms caused at least one death, some injuries and left
behind several homes destroyed and electricity black-outs. Hospitals in the
area used their emergency back-up power generators until the matter was
resolved.
In the Marshall County, power lines were knocked down near
the Roosevelt Bridge challenging traffic for many hours. In Kingston, roads
have been flooded and barricades had to be posted in order to minimize the
catastrophe.
The number of people affected by the loss of electricity is
close to 7,000 and at this point, efforts are made for the complete restoration
by the end of the day.
Reports also include trees down all over the county, causing
the closing of more than five highways.
According to the Associated Press, in Oklahoma, National
Weather Service meteorologist Andrew Taylor in Norman was quoted saying that
there had been two reports on a tornado in Choctaw County in the southeastern
part of the state, but fortunately no mentionable damage was reported. Taylor
said the reports could have been referring to the same tornado.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported the nature of the
incident responsible for the death of one woman. The victim was driving on the
highway and because of the heavy rain, lost control of the vehicle, skidded off
the road into a pole and ending up in a tree.
The National Weather Service announced similar weather
conditions for the following days and demanding a high level of attention from
all people in the area and also a protective attitude.
