Yesterday, during a benefit auction at New York’s Christie’s,
the clothes worn by James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano in the hit series The
Sopranos, managed to bring in $187,750.
The biggest success of the night was an outfit stained with
fake blood worn by Tony during the 6th season, at the time of his
shooting set by Uncle Junior. The white undershirt splattered with blood, the
dirty pants and the black and gray button-down were put away for the colossal
amount of $43,750.
The second main attraction, which also cashed in the
significant amount of $21,250, was a four-piece set composed of slippers, boxer
shorts, sleeveless undershirt and a three-colored bathrobe worn by Tony on
several occasions at the Sopranos’ New Jersey mansion.
Another item, Tony’s lavender-trimmed tan robe with its
famous S insignia, was sold for $13,750.
In addition to Gandolfini’s wardrobe, composed of 25 pieces, several other costumes,
belonging to Domanic Chianese (Junior Soprano), Robert
Iler (A.J.
Soprano) and Tony Sirico (Paulie Walnuts) were also put on display and managed
to add considerably large amounts of money to the mission.
The money raised by the event will benefit the Wounded
Warrior Project, which assists the soldiers injured on the battlefields of Iraq
and Afghanistan. James Gandolfini is one of the firm supporters of the cause,
producing and appearing in the HBO special Alive Day Memories: Home From Iraq.
The Sopranos was initially released in 1999 by HBO and
spanned on six seasons with a total of 86 episodes. The show is the most
financially successful cable series ever and many consider it as one of the
best television series of all time.
