R&B singer Toni Braxton has cancelled Las Vegas shows
for the rest of April as she undergoes further medical testing, following her
emergency hospitalization last week for pericarditis.
Toni Braxton was hospitalized on April 7 at the St. Rose
Dominican Hospital for chest pains. She was released the following day but the
remaining shows for that week at the Flamingo Showroom were cancelled.
The 40-year-old Grammy-winning singer has been treated in
the past for pericarditis, a viral inflammation of the heart. The cause of her
current medical problems has not been revealed yet.
Flamingo President Don Marrandino said her
Tuesday-through-Saturday shows are also off, and Braxton will take advantage of
a previously scheduled two-week break, reports the Associated Press. She is due
to resume her show at the Flamingo Showroom on May 6.
Braxton has been headlining her live show “Toni Braxton:
Revealed” five days a week at the Flamingo since 2006.
The Flamingo is offering refunds for the canceled shows.
Braxton has talked about her medical condition before. She told
People that she had found out about her pericarditis, which is an
inflammation of the sac surrounding the heart, a few years ago and this
inspired her to become involved in cardio awareness programs.
“I have heart disease, and I found out about five or four
years ago,” she told the magazine in February, revealing that she is a
spokesperson for the American Heart Association and describing herself as a
“survivor.”
“I've also been diagnosed with hypertension,” she added.
The singer is married to musician Keri Lewis, of the group
Mint Condition. The two are parents to sons Denham, 6, and Diezel, 5. Braxton has
garnered six Grammy awards for songs including “Un-break My Heart” and “He
Wasn't Man Enough.”
