Tom Cruise decided to refresh his career and turned the page
just to discover comic book movies. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the
“Mission Impossible” pin-up is considering to star in the very likely Warner
Brothers production “Sleeper.” Moreover, as Tom Cruise is loosely attached to
be on the cast list of the film adaptation of the DC Comics/Wildstorm “Sleeper,”
Sam Raimi, director of the “Spider-Man” blockbuster, would produce the movie
together with his Star Road Entertainment partner Josh Donen, as reported by
the same source.
Written by Ed Brubaker with art by Sean Phillips, the comic
series consisted of two 12-issue limited series from 2003 to 2005. “Sleeper”
focuses on Holden Carver, dubbed The Conductor, who would be impersonated by
Tom Cruise if he accepts the role, who was fused with an alien artifact that
makes him resistant to pain and offers him a powerful healing factor.
Furthermore, he can even store the pain he receives and give it to others
through simple skin contact. However, Holden hates his aptitudes and wishes to
be freed of them. He is placed undercover in an ill-famed organization by the
director of Internal Operations and becomes attracted to a member of the group,
Miss Misery.
Tom Cruise has been hunting for appealing projects following
the last week departure of his long-term business associate Paula Wagner from
the company he co-owns, United Artists. In addition to this, he is in talks to
undertake some roles, which include the comedy “Food Fight” and the thriller
“Tourist.”
The actor is presently appearing in a cameo role in Ben
Siller’s much controversial “Tropic Thunder” and will be seen next in United
Artists’ Second World War film “Valkyrie,” in which he impersonates Claus von
Stauffenberg, the possible Nazi murderer of Hitler. The production is due for
release on December 26.
