In a taped appearance on "The View," actor Tom Cruise answered some questions from Barbara Walters about the death of his friend John Travolta’s son, Jett, and the controversy surrounding Jett’s passing.
The 46-year-old actor called Jett’s death "horrific" and recalled meeting the boy when he was just a few months old. He also said that it was not true that Scientologists do not take medication, and said they do go to the doctor, but he focused on the word 'physical" as opposed to "mental" illness.
"I remember Jett when he was born," said Cruise, who was struggling to contain his emotion. "I saw him when he was just a few months old and John just adored him, and both of his children, and Kelly."
16-year-old Jett Travolta suffered a seizure at his family’s holiday home in the Old Bahama Bay resort on Grand Bahama island and was found collapsed in his bathroom early last week. Both his father and the paramedics tried to revive him, but after having been taken by ambulance to Rand Memorial Hospital in Freeport, the boy was pronounced dead.
"I just don't have the words for it," says Cruise. "It's just horrific. Here you have a man, both of them doting parents, they're wonderful people and…"
Jett Travolta’s private memorial service was held yesterday at his parent’s estate in a gated community in Ocala, Florida.
