As the private memorial service has been held in Florida for John Travolta’s 16-year-old son Jett, several actors and other stars expressed their sadness about the tragic death and at the same time support for the ailing father and mother.
The Travolta family and its closest friends held the private memorial service for Jett on Thursday. The memorial service came six days after Jett Travolta was found dead on the floor of the family’s luxury condominium in near Ocala in the Bahamas. Jett Travolta’s memorial service followed Scientology guidelines. Scientology adepts do not believe in heaven or hell. After death, individuals live on as immortal spiritual beings.
The latest superstar who expressed his grief about Jett Travolta’s death was Tom Cruise. The 46-year-old famous actor had a hard time maintaining his composure while speaking on "The View" talk show about the tragic death which occurred last week. Cruise, a close friend of the Travolta family, said that it was just “horrific” that John lost the son he adored so much. The couple, whom Cruise described as “doting parents” and “wonderful people,” also has an 8-year-old daughter, Ella Bleu.
“It's something that I don't have the words for," he added.
When questioned by Barbara Walters (“The View” host), Cruise defended Scientology, which he and the Travoltas follow, against the numerous rumors regarding the death of John Travolta’s son. Cruise underlined that Scientology church does not forbid medical care, but encourages it.
The Cruise interview will air Friday on ABC.
After the autopsy, the body of Jett Travolta, who had a history of seizures, was cremated and returned to his family. The results of the autopsy were not made public and they may remain that way, but according to a Bahamas undertaker, Jett’s death certificate had "seizure" as the cause of death. Jett Travolta weighed about 250 pounds and stood around 6 feet 2 inches tall. He was reportedly suffering from Kawasaki disease, which causes inflammation of the blood vessels in young children.
There were rumors that Jett was left on his own in the family condo, but Travolta's attorney Michael McDermott dismissed them. He said Jett was "spectacularly supervised" while on holiday because of his health condition, The Associated Press reported.
Friends of the Travolta family said Jett also had developmental disabilities. Actress Anne Archer told People magazine that Jett was “significantly mentally handicapped" but they treated him as he was a completely normal child.
When he found his son lying dead on the bathroom floor, John Travolta tried to revive him through CPR and called an emergency medical technician (EMT), but it was all in vain. Now he had to do what no parent should: burry his son.
