It took Tom Brady three weeks to pop the question officially after rumors broke out last month that the football star proposed to his supermodel girlfriend Gisele Bundchen over the holidays.

It appears now that the engagement finally happened, according to People magazine who confirmed the happy news. The 31-year-old New England Patriots quarterback presented his girlfriend with a diamond solitaire this past weekend, on Friday, to be more precise.

“He asked and she accepted. The couple is discussing a huge fashionista event in the spring or a more intimate and quicker ceremony in Costa Rica, where Gisele has a home,” People quoted a source as saying.

Although Brady is reportedly very “private” about his life, the pair is expected to make an official announcement any day now sharing the happy news.

Unlike the last time when Brady’s father strongly denied he had any knowledge about his son’s wedding proposal to Bundchen, family and friends were informed over the weekend. Still, neither Bundchen’s agent nor her twin sister, Patricia, would comment on the impending nuptials.

False reports emerged late last month claiming that Brady asked Bundchen to be his wife on Christmas Eve on board a private jet filled with white roses during a flight to Boston. Bundchen’s family was reportedly on the plane as well.

However, the reports were strongly denied by both Brady’s family as well his teammates who claimed they didn’t know anything about the engagement. Also, the lack of a sparkler on Bundchen’s finger was a strong hint that Brady hadn’t proposed yet.

Their reunion will mark the first marriage for both.

Things evolved pretty quickly since September last year when Bundchen told the Spanish edition of Vogue magazine that she was happy just the way things were in her relationship. Though she was in no rush to get married, she said she was very much in love with her beau.

”He really, genuinely doesn't have a bad bone in his body,” she told GQ. in July. “And he is a very positive person.”

”I think we have a lot of things in common, and I think he is a really great person,” she added.

Considered the world's highest-paid model, having been the face of Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace and Ralph Lauren, the Brazilian-born beauty met the 31-year-old football player when he was still dating actress Bridget Moynahan. The two started dating around Christmas 2006 after Brady and Moynahan split.
 
Brady and Moynahan dated for 3 years and shortly after their breakup Bridget confirmed she was pregnant with Brady’s child, just about the same time Tom went public with his relationship with Gisele. Bridget gave birth to a baby boy named John Edward Thomas Moynahan on August 22, 2007.
