In case someone happened to miss Spider Man, they’ll
consider this good news: Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi, star and director of the
"Spider-Man" films, plan to produce the series’ fourth installment for
Sony's Columbia Pictures.
The actor and director are said to be in negotiations to
sign for the fourth and fifth installments of the movie franchise.
The first three Spider-Man movies grossed $2.5 billion
worldwide.
In order to reduce costs, Columbia is planning to film "Spider-Man
4" and "Spider-Man 5" simultaneously, like New Line did with
“The Lord Of The Rings” trilogy.
Producer Laura Ziskin said she hoped the fourth installment,
whose script will be written by Jamie Vanderbilt, would be released in May 2011,
nine years after the original movie’s debut.
Even though there were rumors that Maguire would not be
replaced in his role as Peter Parker, the studio dismissed them, but refused to
comment about the villains that will star in the next films or whether Kirsten
Dunst will appear again as Mary Jane Watson.
"The studio never considered any other actor. Tobey was
our only choice and the only person we've discussed the role with," Sony
spokesman Steve Elzer said, as quoted by Reuters.
Sony has also started developing the Spider-Man spin-off
“Venom,” hiring writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese to draft the script.
It is not known
whether Topher Grace, who played Venom in “Spider-Man 3,” will also star in the
“Venom” movie.
