We must admit that ever since
the iPhone came out, consumers started asking for more from their phones, and
how about that, they get more with every new smartphone that comes out. How does
a BlackBerry touch sound? Strange for some, intriguing for others, causing a
storm of rumors on how that would ever compete with the mighty iPhone, and how
will BlackBerry addicts react to the transition from a sophisticated keyboard
to no keyboard at all.
Speculations bet on a BlackBerry
– iPhone direct confrontation, from one touch-screen to another, by the end of
the year. There are a lot of things to expect from a BlackBerry touch, now that
we’ve seen BlackBerry Bold’s capabilities. However, as Apple still keeps quiet
about its 3G iPhone, we can only imagine what such a ‘clash of the titans’
would do.
We know for a fact that once you
try either the iPhone or the BlackBerry, the risk of becoming addicted to
either one proportionally increases with every minute that goes by. But as sure
as we are that the iPhone must have a touch-screen, otherwise it wouldn’t be an
iPhone, we’re not so sure about the BlackBerry, if we follow statistics. RIM President
and Co-CEO Mike Lazaridis said after the launch of BlackBerry Bold that people
don’t want to get rid of the keyboard, no matter what.
By assumption, a BlackBerry
touch would address either its segment of users that care more or less about
the keyboard, or the iPhone users segment, a portion of the market hard to break
through. The question is: how big of a threat is the BlackBerry touch for the
iPhone? Some say big, other believe it’s not even worth trying. I guess we’ll
just have to be patient and see for ourselves.
