Tina Fey has been in the public eye recently more than ever, thanks to her flawless comedic impersonation of Alaskan Governor and former Republican Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Tina Fey, born Elizabeth Stamatina Fey in 1970, is an American comedian, but also an actress, producer and writer. So far, her work has been awarded with five Emmys, a Golden Globe and a SAG Award. She is best known to the audiences for her small yet intricate part in the teen comedy “Mean Girls”, for her roles on “Saturday Night Live” and her work on the again-popular sitcom “30 Rock.”
In 2008, she was part of the “10 Most Fascinating People of 2008” list put together by Barbara Walters. Although usually a very open and sociable person, Tine Fey has yet to comment on something we have all wondered about at one point or another – the scar on her face, more precisely on her left cheek.
Tina Fey’s Husband, Jeff Richmond, has recently shed light on the delicate subject in an interview in Vanity Fair, the January issue. According to Richmond, the scar on Fey’s face is the result of an assault on Fey back when she was 5 years old. She was in her house’s front yard, Upper Darby, Pa., when a stranger approached her and slashed her face. To her husband, the scar is fascinating as it always reminds him that the woman next to him has been through something horrible in her life, something which will forever influence her perspective on life.
Fey herself stated that "It's impossible to talk about it without somehow seemingly exploiting it and glorifying it.” She says that she was a very confident child, walking through life as if unaware of the scar. The only time she began to feel self-conscious was when she started appearing in front of the cameras. She is, however, worried about the impact her childhood trauma will have once her daughter Alice, now 3, will turn 5. She quotes her therapist who told her that “When Alice is the age that you were, you may go crazy.”
