Country star Tim McGraw has found it necessary to apologize
for his label’s decision to release another greatest hits album and to tell
fans that he was not consulted prior to the move, which he does not approve of
as it is.
Tim McGraw was in a serious disposition Tuesday as he said
in a statement that he was “saddened and disappointed” with his record label’s
decision to issue another greatest hits album instead of new music for fans to
enjoy.
Curb Records put out “Greatest Hits 3” last week and expects
the album to fare extremely well on the Billboard Country chart. The label said
it anticipates a No. 1 debut for the record on the above-mentioned chart and
only regrets that sales were not as fine as they could have been due to the
current economic crisis.
Curb Records Executive Vice President and General Manager
Dennis Hannon said in a statement that the label had discussed the release with
Tim McGraw and that he was aware of “all aspects.”
McGraw nevertheless distanced himself from the label, stating
that he had “no involvement in the creation or presentation of this record.” Of
course, the music is his own, even if not new, and he also credits all the
collaborators who helped him put together the studio albums where songs on this
record were picked from.
The “concept” of a third greatest hits album, following only
one studio album and another hits album, is “embarrassing” to McGraw, he says,
and as confusing as it might be for fans.
While he struggles with the confusion, McGraw will continue
to work on new music he’s been putting together for over a year now. Fans
attending his concerts this year were able to enjoy three new songs.
Other artists who have signed with Curb include LeAnn Rimes,
Rodney Atkins and Hank Williams, Jr.
