Tim Allen is set to make his directing debut with the
independent comedy “Crazy on the outside.”
Allen will also star in the movie, an adult comedy, along
with Ray Liotta, Carrie-Anne Moss, Julie Bowen and Kelsey Grammer. The actors
are negotiating their contracts.
The production for the movie will begin in March in Los Angeles.
The screenplay was written by Judd Pilot and John Peaslee
and is about an ex-con who is out of the prison and finds that the life outside
bars is much crazier, as he enters in the world of his eccentric sister.
The independent feature is produced by Brian Reilly, Brett
Gregory, Richard Baker and Anastasia Stanecki while Justin Moritt is the
executive producer. Moritt was the producer of such films as “I Am Legend” and “Hitch.”
Allen’s experience with the camera goes back to the 1990s
when he directed one episode of his sitcom “Home Improvement.”
“Crazy on the outside” will mark his debut in directing.
Allen finished the work on “Redbelt” written and directed by
David Mamet which will open April 25. The movie is a mixed martial arts drama co-starring
Chiwetel Ejiofor, Emily Mortimer, Alice Braga, Ricky Jay, David Paymer, Rebecca
Pidgeon and Jose Pablo Cantillo along with martial artists and fighters Randy
Couture, John Machado, Danny Inosanto, Enson Inoue and Ray Mancini.
Here Allen plays an action star who has marital problems and
meets Eijofor, a Jiu-jitsu master, who is drawn to the movie industry. The two
meet just as Eijofor’s character gets into a street fight.
This movie is different than the work Allen has done in the
past.
Allen also worked on the independent comedy "The Six
Wives of Henry Lefay" and “Toy Story 3” where he will lend his voice for
the role of Buzz Lightyear.
