Even though TiVo became known as the company offering products that allow people to skip the annoying TV ads, the company has recently announced that it will release a new feature that will allow people to instantly purchase products advertised on TV. TiVo's partner in this attempt is none other than electronic commerce giant Amazon.
The new feature will provide links on the onscreen menus that people will be able to access to buy products that are advertised in TV shows such as the 'The Daily Show,' 'The Oprah Winfrey Show,' or 'The Late Show With David Letterman.'
Unlike other similar tools that have been tested before, the one that TiVo will release will not make users loose any minute of the show.
The moment a person decides to buy the product, the show he or she is watching will be recorded, so that when the transaction would end, the person would be able to watch the show from where he or she left it.
Besides that, people using the new feature are also given the possibility to save the product they want to purchase on the Amazon site, and then come back to complete the buying procedure latter on.
According to the New York Times, Thomas Rogers, TiVo's CEO said that "Our goal now is to work with the media industry to come up with ways to resist the downward pressure of less advertising viewing and create a way for advertising on TV to become more effective, more engaging, and closer to the sale."
Just how much success the new feature will have remains to be seen, but most of the similar endeavors have failed in the past.
