TiVo Prepares New Feature With Entertainment Weekly

TiVo Inc. announced today its new partnership with Time Warner's Entertainment Weekly, which will provide a brand new service designed to automatically record the television shows listed in the magazine’s What to Watch chart.

TiVo’s officials described the partnership as a very useful tool that "allows two powerful properties to work together to create a more seamless television viewing experience for their respective audiences."

Looking to make the offer even more attractive, the magazine will also provide access to its video content with original programs such as "Just a Minute," "Ausiello TV," "Idolatry" and also several behind the scenes sessions.

"I think this closes the loop on the promise of our brand, which helps you make the most of your entertainment time," said Scott Donaton, publisher of Entertainment Weekly, adding that 60% of the magazine's audience uses Digital Video Recorders (DVRs).

Tom Rogers, CEO of TiVo, explained that the company is looking to gather as many such recommendations as possible, in order to make it easier for users to record programs.

TiVo registers at this point 1.7 million subscribers out of the estimated 26 million DVRs users in the United States and the ‘upgrade’ is expected to boost its sales over this year’s fourth quarter. Even though it was the first to introduce these features on a video recorder more than 10 years ago, the company failed so far in its efforts to become the market’s best seller.

The new service will be available starting this fall but at this point no other details about the deal were disclosed.
