TiVo came up with a new solution to help customers keep in
touch with their favorite TV programs, even when they’re out of town. Thanks to
the TiVo Mobile service, cell phone owners can browse a phone-optimized website
and schedule recordings to their TiVo box even wherever they are not in their
living room.
The website, which is optimized for small screen, offers an interface
users will find easy to use, and everything from search function by actor,
title, director or keyword, to Daily Recommendations and Most Popular.
“TiVo started out making television a more convenient,
personal experience, and this is the next step to give television lovers total
control over their media,” Jim Denney, vice president of product marketing at
TiVo Inc. explained.
The service basically allows users to schedule recordings
directly from their mobile phones on their Series2 and Series3 TiVo boxes. The mobile
website is accessible to both subscribers and non-subscribers, regardless of
carrier, the company said.
TiVo Mobile is available at m.tivo.com in beta as of this
week, and will be deployed on a larger scale within the next few weeks. The company
said the service “extends the on-the-go functionality to a large audience,
bringing the freedom of TiVo scheduling to places it has never been before.”
This adds up to other existing services from TiVo, which
include content from Amazon Video on Demand and Jaman, but also videos from
YouTube. Furthermore, TiVo will allow its subscribers to stream movies and TV
episodes directly from Netflix.
