As predicted, Lil Rounds, Scott McIntyre and Jorge Nunez are the latest additions to the Season 8 Top 12 for American Idol. However Wednesday night's "American Idol" also got rid of many skeletons in the closet.
Not only did we, as expected, fill out the final slots in the Top 9 with the most predictable finalists, but the most puzzled-over mystery of the season was finally cleared up as the identities of the wild-card contestants were unveiled.
These eight singers had been praised by judges the past couple weeks, but were overlooked by voting fans. Tonight, the judges will select three from this small group to round out the final 12. The wild carders are: Von Smith, 22, of Missouri; Jasmine Murray, 16, of Mississippi; Ricky Braddy, 26, of Tennessee; Megan Joy Corkrey, 22, of Utah; Matt Giraud, 23, of Michigan; Del Toro, 24, of Puerto Rico; Jesse Langseth, 25, of Minnesota; and Anoop Desai, 21, of North Carolina.
While the sudden-death element of each week of the semifinal rounds raised the stakes immensely, the contests ended up completely lopsided, with at least two of the three weekly chairs almost certain to go to the huge favorites (Danny Gokey, Alexis Grace, Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, MacIntyre, Rounds). Due to whatever quirk of fate, the distance between the favorites and the field each week has enormous.
Moreover, among the judges' choices, there was a shocking turn: they somehow could not resist giving perhaps the most hated contestant in "Idol" history, Tatiana Del Toro, one more moment in the sun, one more spotlight to flood with tears.
As a reminder, the rest of the Top 12 looks like this: Alexis Grace, Michael Sarver, Danny Gokey, Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta and Kris Allen.
