Three French journalists were part of a incident that occurred yesterday during the Black Hat security conference. The organizers found out that the journalists, which worked for the Global Security Mag, sniffed on the communications that took place in the press conference room and created a list of usernames and passwords of fellow journalists who didn't protect the data they sent.
The Black Hat Security conference organized an event called the 'Wall of Sheep' as a method of increasing the awareness of the importance of protecting one's data when working over a wireless connection. The people that attended the conference were told not to use any unsecured Internet connections for transmitting valuable information like usernames or passwords.
Despite the warning, many attendees did just what they were told not to. The organizers, who monitored the traffic on the Black Hat wireless network, published the credentials of each of these individuals.
One of the three French journalists decided to take one step forward in the direction set by the people that organized the event and used a special software to gather the passwords and usernames of the attendees of the conference. He afterwards took the list that he created to the people responsible for posting the credentials on the 'Wall of Sheep' and asked them to post the information he gathered also.
This led the organizers to ask the three journalists from the magazine this person worked for to leave the conference.
According to the Daily Tech, the director of the magazine, who was among the three men that were ejected said that what his colleague had done was only a joke.
