“Saturday Night Live” has outdone itself once more, this
weekend’s greatest hilarity coming from the joined forces of Paul Rudd, Beyonce
and Justin Timberlake who spared themselves no reservation from self-ridicule,
the last star in particular.
Paul Rudd, whose “Role Models” comedy was recently released,
hosted NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” this weekend while Beyonce was musical
guest. The two teamed up for one particular spoof that had Rudd play the music
video director for the R&B star’s new single “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On
It).”
The parody featured a surprise cameo appearance from Justin
Timberlake, who along with SNL cast members Andy Samberg and Bobby Moynihan,
donned sexy black turtleneck leotards, high heels and a pronouncedly gay
demeanor as the back up dancers for Beyonce’s video.
In the spoof, Beyonce herself is dressed in a stylized black
leotard with a wide belt and strappy high-heels and decides to give the guys a
chance. As they prepare, Timberlake & Co. enthusiastically pull their legs
behind them, for the warming up, and Beyonce proceeds to do her dance moves and
lip-synching for the video, with her trusted back up dancers initially performing
the same moves before straying off into a bit of a competition for the close-up.
The singer asks for the filming to stop, with Rudd
interjecting, “What’s the beef B-K?” She replies, “Something doesn’t feel quite
right” and that she expected the dancers to be strong beautiful women, as would
be fitting for the theme of her song. Rudd manages to assuage her concerns and
they start filming again.
The guys start showing off once more and try to steal the
spotlight from the star, who once again asks for the cameras to stop rolling.
Rudd finally confesses the three backup dancers are his stepsons and that his
wife asked him to spend some time with them, to which Moynihan quips, “You’re
doing a good job dad,” completed by Timberlake’s comment, “Yeah, you’re really
trying and it shows.”
Nepotism doesn’t work though as Beyonce does not agree to
have them in her video and the spoof ends with the five of them shaking around.
Justin Timberlake also presented the “Weekend Update” on
this edition while Beyonce performed “If I Were A Boy” and “Single Ladies” from
her new album, “I Am… Sasha Fierce,” debuting this week in North
America. (Sasha Fierce is her alter ego, the personality she
“turns on” when she is on stage.) She and Justin Timberlake have worked
together before, performing the duet “Until The End Of Time” on his album 2006
album “FutureSex/LoveSounds.”
Timberlake collaborated before with Any Samberg on “SNL,”
the two of them receiving a Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Original Music
and Lyrics last year for their over-the-top spoof “D---- in a Box.”
