“Tropic Thunder,” produced by
DreamWorks Pictures and released by Paramount Pictures, directed by and starring Ben
Stiller, earned its third consecutive first-place in the Box-office this week.
Ben Stiller’s film, also starring Tom Cruise, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr.
earned a total of $83.8 million. It sold about $11.5 million in U.S. and Canada throughout the current
weekend according to box-office tracker Exhibitor
Relations.
Newcomer “Babylon A.D” came in on the second place with
a total of $9.7 million during the weekend. The film was released by 20th Century Fox and it is a sci-fi action thriller starring Vin Diesel and Michelle Yeoh.
The third place was held by the absolute star of the summer,
Warner Bros.' franchise film, "The Dark Knight" with $8.8 million gained. This means that its total earnings sum
up to more than $502 million. Thus it has officially become the second
highest-grossing film in history after James Cameron's "Titanic."
The comedy "The House Bunny" slipped down two
places, therefore occupying the fourth position for the current weekend, with $8.3 million cashed. The movie was released by Columbia
Pictures and it tells the story of a Playboy Bunny thrown out of the
mansion who becomes house mother in order to help the other ones after their
banishment from the Playboy mansion. It stars Anna Faris and the script was
written by Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah Lutz who are also behind
"Legally Blonde."
In at fifth with $7.9 million was another debut, "Traitor,"
with Don Cheadle as a former officer and potential international conspirator. "Traitor" was released by Overture Films.
