During the Flash On The Beach (FOTB) conference in Brighton,
Sr. Director of Engineering at Adobe Systems Paul Betlem answered some of the
questions related to the Flash support prepared for the iPhone. According to
his statement, the company is currently working on it, but whether the
application will make it or not into the App Store, is still unknown, as the final
saying in the matter belongs to Apple’s officials.
If the software will be approved, it will become available in
a very short time, Betlem added.
There were several questions unanswered, including the one
about the player’s functionality, which will surely be addressed if the product
receives all the needed approvals.
"[S]o we're also committed to bringing the Flash
experience to the iPhone and we'll work with Apple," said Shantanu
Narayan, CEO of Adobe, during a phone interview. He also added that "We've
evaluated the SDK we can now start to develop the Flash Player ourselves. And,
we think it benefits our joint customers so we want to work with Apple to bring
that capability to the device."
In the event that everything goes well with the development
process and the approval forms, the Flash Player could boost the iPhone’s popularity
even more, as it will help users with a better Internet experience, closer to
the one found on their regular browsers. Some problems could surface with some
of the Flash-based Web sites, which are sometimes difficult to navigate through
and also Flash-based advertising, which can be rather irritating at times.
