On Tuesday, Apple released its iPhone 2.2.1 software update. Even though many expected some new brand new features, the update is mainly focused on fixes and minor improvements.
The 2.2.1 update demands 246.4 MB and was designed to improve the general stability of Safari and also fix the issue with Camera Roll, which sometimes does not display correctly the images saved from Mail.
The update is also available for the iPod touch and besides the improvements mentioned above, it also covers an issue that caused some Apple Lossless (ALAC) to skip during playback.
There were some rumors about the company’s plan to include in the update support for push notifications. Apple is either saving that for another time, not planning on releasing such a feature or the development process is not yet complete. The next update should cover many other aspects but it’s too soon to get into it.
Users looking to update their devices with the 2.2.1 version must first make sure that they are using iTunes 8. Once the iPhone or iPod is connected to the computer, through iTunes, users must select their iPhone or iPod under Devices in the Source List which is found on the left. After accessing Summary pane, they must click "Check for Update," and then click Download and install the update. The devices must not be disconnected until the update is finished.
Even though it’s not quite what users expected, it still bring an improvement to the devices, so users should install the update and hope for the best on the next one.
