We’re taught diversity is beautiful and welcomed, but when
someone actually tries to be a little bit different, things get complicated.
Jim Piculas, a substitute teacher from Florida, tried to make his lesson more
interesting and got fired. One might think that he crossed the line big-time if
the School District had to make such a drastic
decision. Well, here’s the reason: a toothpick trick.
Piculas made a toothpick disappear then reappear, in front
of a classroom at Rushe
Middle School in Land
O'Lakes.
The world is still in shock. A toothpick? This is just too
much.
According to the school, he was also not following lesson
plans and was allowing the students to play with some computers that had not
been approved yet. Originality? How dared he?
Of course it’s okay for David Blaine to levitate or to do
magic with playing-cards. People endorse that, people want that, people watch
it on television. But when a simple substitute teacher has a little more
creativity he gets kicked out.
“I get a call in the middle of the day from head of
supervisor of substitute teachers. He says, ‘Jim, we have a huge issue. You
can’t take any more assignments. You need to come in right away.’ I said, ‘Well
Pat, can you explain this to me?’ ‘You've been accused of wizardry.’ Wizardry?”
Piculas said, according to First Coast News.
He tried to defend himself by explaining the trick and he is
concerned that the incident may prevent him from being considered for future
jobs.
