Putting an end to weeks of speculation, actress-comedian Sherri Shepherd will reportedly take on the permanent co-host duties sometime next week, an official announcement is expected to be made on Monday.
After filling in as a co-host numerous times, the "Who's Your Caddy?" star will be properly introduced by "The View" co-creator Barbara Walters during Monday’s show, when she is rumored to make an appearance as well.
Shepherd will join Whoopi Goldberg, "The View’s" most recent addition, along with Barbara Walters, Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck on ABC’s daytime chat fest, marking the first time the show has had a full cast since Star Jones Reynolds and Meredith Vieira left in early summer 2006.
According to multiple media reports, an ABC spokesperson only said that "an official announcement will come Monday on 'The View' as promised Wednesday by Barbara Walters."
Just this week, comedian Whoopi Goldberg made her debut as a permanent host, replacing Rosie O’Donnell who left the show in early June, before the season ended.
"It's been empty for a year, but this Monday, Sept. 10, if you tune in, you will find that we have somebody else joining the panel permanently," Walters hinted during the program's Hot Topics segment.
"I was only here a day, you replacing me already?" exclaimed Goldberg, "Oh my God, oh my God!"
"I should have said, 'not instead of, but in addition to,'" Walters explained.
Shepherd’s addition to the show is expected to improve audiences, since Whoopi Goldberg's debut brought in an average 3.4 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research, marking the second-most-watched season premiere for the show, currently in its 11th season. Rosie’s 2006 debut brought in a whopping 4.4 million.
