"The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" and its
sequel "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2," follows the separate
adventures of four teenage girls as they compulsively pass from one another the
same pair of magical vintage jeans by air-mail. They are an adaptation of Ann
Brashares' best-sellers.
The sequel is made by
Time Warner Inc's Warner Bros and contains all the other three books of the
series concentrated in one film, following the girls after their first year of
college.
The original 2005 film made only $39 million in North America and $2.9 million overseas, but the sequel, which is to
be released Wednesday night, is expected to do better.
"While it had a nice core audience, it wasn't a huge
success at the box office so I was a little surprised when we came back to do
the second one," Emmy award-winning America Ferrera, 23, who plays the
title character in the popular U.S. television series "Ugly Betty,"
told Reuters.
The protagonists of the movie are: Bridget (Blake Lively) is
studying archaeology in Turkey;
Tibby (Amber Tamblyn) is in film school in New York;
Carmen (America Ferrera) is studying theater in Vermont;
Lena (Alexis Bledel) is taking a life-drawing class in Rhode Island. Ferrera is also known from the
“Ugly Betty” series, Blake Lively, 20, stars in the new TV series "Gossip
Girl", and Bledel from “Gilmore Girls”.
Although the film is made out of 4 different stories,
director Sanaa Hamri each story has its own personality and is very different
from the others.
