AT&T has just released the Samsung Epix, a Windows Mobile smartphone that includes both a touchscreen and an optical mouse that can switch to a four-way navigation key for more traditional navigation.
Also with the launch of the Epix, AT&T is also launching their GPS application to take advantage of global maps for international travel. The Epix is available exclusively to AT&T customers in the U.S.
The Epix is a sleek, silver finish handset equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard. Its 2.6-inch display is larger than on the BlackJack II and also supports touchscreen input of its own through either fingers or a stylus.
The smartphone is also as full-featured as other current devices with tri-band 3G, Wi-Fi and assisted GPS. An integrated 2.0-megapixel camera captures photos and videos. Stereo Bluetooth technology offers handsfree listening and conversation. It also comes with a microSD memory card slot for storage of up to 32 GB of data.
Samsung Epix measures 4.6 inches x 2.4 inches x 0.5 inches, weighs just 4.4 ounces.
The Samsung Epix runs Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional Edition. The handset also provides users with access to multiple e-mail accounts with Microsoft Direct Push for corporate users and AT&T Xpress Mail, which includes access to most major personal e-mail accounts. The Epix also offers over-the-air synchronization of contacts, calendars and task lists with Microsoft Exchange Server or Xpress Mail and support for Good Mobile Messaging.
Customers can also access AT&T Mobile Music for music content, including subscriptions from Napster Mobile and XM Radio Mobile. The Cellular Video lets viewers watch thousands of clips via streaming video, while MobiTV provides full-length video streaming.
The Samsung Epix is available now at select AT&T stores and online for $199.99 with a two-year contract.
