One of the biggest problems in the United States is and has been for many years the health care issue. The reason why this topic keeps the front pages is because there seems to be a bad connection between the massive amount of money sent in its direction and the wanted and needed results.
This year, the health care’s piece of the federal budget exceeded $1 trillion, which was used on health programs such as Medicare and many other initiatives designed to make the system better. Unfortunately, so far there hasn’t been any significant improvement and if the current trend will continue, the amounts spent on health care are likely to double over the next several years.
President-elect Barack Obama introduced some new ideas for cutting the costs. He suggested the switch to electronic medical records, which could save almost $80 billion every year. He also explained that the better management of chronic conditions such as heart diseases, asthma, diabetes and high blood pressure could save another $80 billion per year. Over the next ten years, the plan is to reduce the costs by about 30 percent, which would represent a save of more than $700 billion a year - in order to achieve this, the entire country must get involved, from politicians, to doctors and citizens.
Still, the only way of making sure that money will be saved, and even more important, that health care services will improve, is to change the system and change the way it is organized and the way the services are delivered.
