Everyone must have heard something about the Bigfoot hoax by now, as last week the topic was widely covered by all the possible publications and televisions one could think of.
Although the two alleged Bigfoot trackers said it was not the money that drove them to do this, Matthew Whitton and Rick Dyer did receive a $50,000 check from Tom Biscardi, owner of SearchingforBigfoot.com. Obviously enough, the man now wants his money back and plans to sue the two.
When he heard that the corpse of a Bigfoot specimen was found, Tom Biscardi immediatly decided he wanted to be first to examine it and thus paid the aforementioned sum. He then sent detective Steve Kulls to Georgia to inspect the body. However, when the detective got there, he only found a frozen rubber Bigfoot costume.
Once having found the fraud, Tom Biscardi called the two trackers at their California hotel and arranged a meeting. The two men failed to show up. They had disappeared and so had Tom Biscardi’s check.
Catherine Ortez, working with Searching for Bigfoot, Inc., said there will most definitely be legal action taken; according to her, even if this was indeed a joke, it was nonetheless "methodical and thought-out."
Agent Dan Ryan of the Palo Alto (Calif.) Police Department said something which sounded like What goes around, comes around. According to him, Tom Biscardi was part of a very similar hoax a while back.
Tom Biscardi could not be contacted to comment on the ongoing situation.
